Behind every great idea is a story. For Nestbedz, that story begins with a very special dog named Zulu.
Zulu is a Vizsla, a breed known for its energy, loyalty, and love of life. Most Vizslas are expected to live between 10 and 14 years, yet Zulu celebrated her 15th birthday in January 2026.
So often when we are out people admire her and want to know the secret to a long healthy life for their dog.
Zulu's journey is one of resilience, joy, and the simple things that help dogs live happy, healthy lives.
A Tough Diagnosis at Age Eight
When Zulu was just eight years old, she was diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumor, a form of cancer that affects many dogs.
At the time, we were told she might only have a couple of years left.
Like many dog owners, hearing that news was heartbreaking. But Zulu had other plans.
From the beginning she has shown an incredible determination to enjoy life, and she continues to prove that every day.
The Secret Everyone Asks Us About
The truth is, there isn’t just one thing. It’s a combination of love, routine, activity, and making sure she’s comfortable.
Some of the things that have helped Zulu most include:

Zulu still runs between 3 and 8 miles most days, which is exactly what energetic dogs like Vizslas thrive on.

She runs in the morning and still enjoys an afternoon walk.
🐾 Being part of a pack
Two years ago, Zulu gained two new companions, a Dachshund and a Dalmatian, and the companionship has clearly lifted her spirit (and given her someone to compete with!)

After all that activity, she spends plenty of time resting on comfortable beds designed to support older dogs.

For the past four years, Zulu has also been taking YuMOVE supplements to support her joints. They’ve become such an important part of her routine that we’re honestly too scared to stop them now. Who knows if they have been part of the reason she is running so well still?
